DO NOT OBSERVE THE SUN WITHOUT TAKING PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT YOUR EYESIGHT
If you have NOT observed the sun before using a telescope and any special method or technique, then you must NOT do so without supervision or training.
Leading up to the Transit of Venus you will see, read and hear of many ways to observe this phenomena, for some one not familiar with the techniques of observing the sun the best approach is to attend an observing session at a local observatory or view with someone that understands solar observing techniques.
In other sections on this Forum there may be references to how a particular observation was made, any such reference is not a prescriptive formula to conducting your own observations, any such reference is not to be accepted or used as method that may be duplicated in exact accordance with the observation.
ALL METHODS of observing the Sun and hence the Transit of Venus come with a unique set of risks, that will result in permanent damage to the eye(s), this includes projection techniques and the use of Solar rejection filters. All techniques must be executed by a person with experience in that particular technique and within a controlled environment, this includes supervision of children and adults.
